Former K-Mart employee Mark Davis had a strange collection. For a period between the late 80s and early 90s he collected the in-store music cassette tapes sent to each store for their in-store music. Not content to keep this great piece of retail history to himself, Mark posted the collection to Archive.Org for all of us to listen to.

The collection features 56 tapes 1989 through 1992, including the Kmart 30th Anniversary Program. For those of us in retail it’s a great flash back to the 80s and 90s and more importantly, it shows the evolution of in-store music from the days of cassette tapes through modern, internet enabled, broadcast methods.

Give the collection a listen and enjoy the trip back in time to when going to K-Mart was a family event we all looked forward to and hearing “Attention K-Mart shoppers, we are having a blue light special on…..”.
