“We’re sipping Merlot while relaxing next to a fire on that first crisp Autumn evening. And I lean in close and tell you about electrical components you’ll find in a catalog. You order 200.” This is how Monica Ballard, our October Voice of Choice, describes her voice style. She’ll make you feel relaxed and comfortable, and when you start to let your guard down, she makes her move. Before you know it, she’s convinced you to buy something you didn’t even know you needed. These are the qualities of a great persuasive copywriter, and a fantastic voice talent!
Monica was working as both writer and voice talent at Broadcast Marketing & Entertainment (BME) based out of Austin, Texas, when Spectrio acquired the company in 2009. Since then, she’s continued on as the on-hold voice of many businesses in the Austin region. When friends and family comment that they’ve heard her voice while holding for area businesses, it reminds Monica that she’s an ambassador for that business. She is inspired by this idea, and feels privileged to be able to represent companies in a unique way.
Her favorite parts about being a voice talent? The opportunity to be creative with voice acting, dialects and interesting inflection. She also enjoys the flexible hours, and being able to work after midnight if she feels like it.
If Monica could do voice work for any company, she said she’d love to voice for a major luxury hotel chain like the Waldorf Astoria or resorts owned by the Irvine Company. “I’d throw Disney in there too. And then I’d work on the BARTER system!”
Monica loves her life outside of voice work. She’s part of a marketing partnership called “Wizard of Ads,” which specializes in owner-operated small businesses across the world. She’s just put her third book up for sale on Amazon.com – “True Haunted Tales of the Driskill Hotel.” And while she sometimes struggles to send gifts and cards on time, her grandchildren are her joy and they love her nonetheless!
